Sholing Valleys Spring Fair

On the 16th of May, we were really lucky to have a stall at the Sholing Valley Spring Fair. It was really busy and lots of people came. James, Theo, Amiya and I all worked together with our parents to sell plants, fidget toys and sweets. We also had a "Name the Bear" game and a "Guess How Many Sweets Are in the Jar" competition.

The most popular thing by far was our tomahawk throwing. People could have 3 throws for £1, and lots of people wanted to have a go. It was really fun watching everyone try.

We sold all of our plants and fidget toys, which was amazing. We were so happy because it meant we had raised lots of money for our trip.

The Mayor even came over and had a go at the tomahawk throwing. It was really nice to see him joining in with everyone.

It was great to be part of such a lovely community event. There were loads of brilliant stalls to look around too. My favourite (apart from ours!) was the stall selling freshly pressed apple juice. It was really tasty, and I bought a couple of bottles.

At the end of the day, the adults counted up all the money we had raised, and it was just over £400! We were all really pleased because we had worked hard all day, and it was amazing to see how much we had raised towards our Switzerland trip.

I also learned lots of new skills from this event. Before this, I hadn't really spoken to members of the public while selling things. At first I was a bit nervous, but as the day went on I got much more confident. It taught me about customer service, talking to new people and working as part of a team.

Our next challenge is even bigger because we're going to two fairs on the same day. Hopefully we'll raise even more money and meet lots more lovely people.

  Hello, Theo here! This month, it’s my turn to write the blog, so here goes... In case you are wondering what’s going on, then here’s a brief reminder. We (Iyla, James, Amiya and I) are all hoping to go on a two-week trip to Kanderstag in Switzerland in August 2027 to the International Scout Campsite. We’re really looking forward to meeting other Scouts from around the world, as well as taking part in some amazing activities in a beautiful location. From hiking in the mountains, to visiting a glacier and white-water rafting on a local river, it’s an action-packed adventure all the way (not to mention we’ve heard there’s good chocolate in Switzerland!). Obviously, an adventure like this comes with a price tag, and to raise funds for our trip we’ve got a busy schedule of events and activities across the next fifteen months. The team of four originally set out with the goal of raising £5,600 to send themselves to Switzerland. Thanks to everyone’s incredible support, they have now raised £1,622.27 so far — including the pledged donation from JSWT. That means they are already 29% of the way to their target ! Their next fundraising event will be at the Sholing Valley Fayre on Saturday 16th May , where they’ll be running a stall throughout the day. I am going on Suisse27 with three other people from 9th Itchen Sea Scouts. It’s cool that Iyla, James, Theo and I are all going together. We met at Beavers and have been doing Scouting together ever since. The Switzerland trip is two weeks long. We are going to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC), an international Scout camp. We will be hiking in the mountains, going to Bern to see the bears, going white-water rafting, and doing many other activities. I really want to try canyoning. The four of us are working together to fund our trip. We are going to do lots of fairs, a sponsored walk, and a quiz night. We are trying to raise £5,600. We are going to have lots of fun! from Amiya
