Table Top Sale Occured

 Hello, Theo here!

This month, it’s my turn to write the blog, so here goes...

In case you are wondering what’s going on, then here’s a brief reminder. We (Iyla, James, Amiya and I) are all hoping to go on a two-week trip to Kanderstag in Switzerland in August 2027 to the International Scout Campsite.

We’re really looking forward to meeting other Scouts from around the world, as well as taking part in some amazing activities in a beautiful location. From hiking in the mountains, to visiting a glacier and white-water rafting on a local river, it’s an action-packed adventure all the way (not to mention we’ve heard there’s good chocolate in Switzerland!).

Obviously, an adventure like this comes with a price tag, and to raise funds for our trip we’ve got a busy schedule of events and activities across the next fifteen months. We’re going to be attending a lot of fetes and fairs, selling lots of items we’ve made, or have decided that we no longer need, or have had donated. We’ll be attempting to give some seeds a start in life and run a successful plant sale in late spring, and there’s possibly something big and sponsored in the summer (but I can’t tell you about it yet, as it’s not quite finalised – but trust me, it’ll be BIG). There are also other ideas for Autumn 2026, but I shouldn’t get too ahead of myself and give everything away just yet.

This blog is about our first fair, on the 21st of March, which was a tabletop sale at the Peartree United Reform Church on Bridge Road, Woolston.

Between us we’d gathered more than 100 toys to sell, (so many that we had to have two tables!) and set up in the middle of the hall. After carefully pricing our items and having a quick lesson in the best way to arrange things to make them seem desirable, the doors opened.

Across the next 90 minutes, we rotated ourselves between managing the stalls and talking to people about what we were doing outside of the hall.

It was a small but significant start to our fundraising, and we learnt some valuable lessons about how these events run.

We’ll be back for another tabletop sale on April 18th. Same place, the Peartree United Reform Church Hall on Bridge Road, between 10am and 11:30 am. We hope to see you there, and in the meantime, we’ll be busy getting our hands dirty, planting seeds ready for a plant sale in late Spring.

Keep an eye out for the next update on the ‘Scouts to Switzerland’ blog, when someone else in the team will be telling you how it’s going.

Kanderstag, here we come!
