June Update and 2 Fairs on One Day

On the 6th of June, our team had two fundraising fairs on the same day!

Iyla, Max and I went to the Woolston Library Fair. We sold paracord bracelets that Max had made, ran a "Name the Bear" competition, a "Guess the Sweets in the Jar" game and a raffle.

At the same time, James and Theo went to Theo's Rising Stars Fair. They had planned to do tomahawk throwing, but because the weather wasn't very good, they changed their plans and had a tabletop sale instead.

At the library we were right by the entrance, which was a really good spot because lots of people walked past us. We were really busy for the first couple of hours. The "Guess the Sweets in the Jar" competition was definitely the most popular, and lots of people wanted to have a go.

When we packed everything away, Max, Iyla and I went over to the Rising Stars Fair. We were hoping to see Theo perform, but sadly we got there just after he had finished. Instead we joined in with the limbo competition, which was great fun.

Altogether, we raised £100 over the weekend. Every bit helps us get closer to our goal!

July and August are going to be really busy for us. We have lots more fairs and fêtes coming up, a bake sale, and our biggest challenge yet—a sponsored walk where we're going to walk over the Itchen Bridge 166 times! It's definitely going to be a very long day, but we're all excited to take on the challenge.

So far, we've raised £2,249.98 out of our £5,600 target, which is just over 40% of what we need. We're really proud of how far we've come. It isn't just about raising money—we've learned so many new things too. We've planned events, made things to sell, talked to lots of members of the public, learned about customer service, filled in grant applications and written blogs for our website. It's been a brilliant experience, and we've grown in confidence as a team.

  Hello, Theo here! This month, it’s my turn to write the blog, so here goes... In case you are wondering what’s going on, then here’s a brief reminder. We (Iyla, James, Amiya and I) are all hoping to go on a two-week trip to Kanderstag in Switzerland in August 2027 to the International Scout Campsite. We’re really looking forward to meeting other Scouts from around the world, as well as taking part in some amazing activities in a beautiful location. From hiking in the mountains, to visiting a glacier and white-water rafting on a local river, it’s an action-packed adventure all the way (not to mention we’ve heard there’s good chocolate in Switzerland!). Obviously, an adventure like this comes with a price tag, and to raise funds for our trip we’ve got a busy schedule of events and activities across the next fifteen months. The team of four originally set out with the goal of raising £5,600 to send themselves to Switzerland. Thanks to everyone’s incredible support, they have now raised £1,622.27 so far — including the pledged donation from JSWT. That means they are already 29% of the way to their target ! Their next fundraising event will be at the Sholing Valley Fayre on Saturday 16th May , where they’ll be running a stall throughout the day. I am going on Suisse27 with three other people from 9th Itchen Sea Scouts. It’s cool that Iyla, James, Theo and I are all going together. We met at Beavers and have been doing Scouting together ever since. The Switzerland trip is two weeks long. We are going to Kandersteg International Scout Centre (KISC), an international Scout camp. We will be hiking in the mountains, going to Bern to see the bears, going white-water rafting, and doing many other activities. I really want to try canyoning.
